Opera Lyra: Madamma Butterfly

Once unconfined and enduringly beautiful, the pinned butterfly is a metaphor for the opera's foreboding theme of being consumed by unrequited love. Madamma Butterfly’s husband consciously rejects her affection, exploiting and treating her as an artefact.

Opera Lyra: Carmen

For Carmen, love is simultaneously a seductive and destructive dance. Like a matador, she confidently and playfully frolics with death, her sincerity as tenuous as the ethereal fabric of her dress. A fluid Carmen was brought to life through a true Flamenco dancer.
